⚡ The Stealie started as a stencil on a road case. 💀
1969. Owsley "Bear" Stanley needed a way to tell the Dead's gear apart from every other band's at festival shows. He and Bob Thomas came up with a skull, a 13-point lightning bolt, a red and blue circle. Stenciled it on the equipment cases. That was the whole plan.
It ended up on an album cover. Then on everything. This version reimagines the classic Stealie in deep purple, teal, and green on indigo blue — roses flanking the circle, "Grateful Dead" ringing the outside, the whole thing with a soft watercolor wash that makes the old skull feel brand new. Dye the Sky does this one right.
